Julie Sessor has attended about five classes and says she highly recommends it for any fitness or spiritual level. “It is a good workout and it’s a little bit intimidating if you’ve never done it before. The instructor Saralynn is wonderful at explaining the poses and giving you modifications.”

The class appears to be a typical yoga class but the visible difference it the instructor who is holding a Bible and reading scripture.

Holy Yoga has the physical, mental and spiritual discipline as a regular yoga class except this one has a different focus.

Saralyn Hamilton is the instructor and says the class if suited for Christians, non-Christians and those who are Christian curious.

Holy Yoga still embraces breath work, meditation and physical postures but there are other Hindu and Buddhist traditions found in yoga that you won’t find here.

Chanting “OM” is replaced with prayer and the chakra theory is not practiced.

Carol Cundiff loves yoga but says she typically stays away because of some of the practices. “I was very excited to see holy yoga because now it’ll let me get some exercise and still be able to follow my beliefs in Christ.”

The instructor starts the class with a verse from the Bible and that scripture is meditated on throughout the hour. “A class that’s based and grounded on truth. And just to give people an opportunity to be quiet and be still in front of the Lord and to honor our bodies as a temple that he gave us,” explains Hamilton.
