With Bhanke Yogavacara Rahula, who will speak on the teachings and practice of meditation as a means of finding peace and harmony in mind and body. Open to the public, donations accepted.

Bhante Rahula was born Scott DuPrez in Southern California in 1948. He grew up during the hippie revolution and entered the U.S. Army for three years in 1967, spending ten months in Vietnam. In 1972, he began a long trek through Europe to India and Nepal where he studied yoga and Theravada Buddhism. Bhante Rahula was ordained as a Theravada Buddhist monk in Sri Lanka, where he lived for eleven years.

Bhante Rahula describes his transformation from a young hippie and army dropout to a Theravada Buddhist in his autobiography, One Night’s Shelter. He is also the author of several other books, including Meditation: Body and Mind Connection, a manual about the integration of yoga and movement with mindfulness meditation; The Way to Peace and Happiness; and Traversing the Great Himalayas, a chronicle of his travels through India and Nepal. Currently, Bhante Rahula is the managing director and chief meditation master at the newly established Lion of Wisdom Meditation Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
