Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, secretary of the Tatmadaw’s True News Information agency revealed this at the press conference held at Defence Museum in Nay Pyi Taw on June 22.
“Previously, AA took cover among villagers. They shoot and run. Now, they start to use religious buildings and monasteries as cover,” Brig Gen Zaw Min Tun said.
He said that guns and explosives found during a search of a refugee camp near a monastery near the Thin Kyit Taung hill in Pauk Taw Pyin village, Mrauk-U township, is evidence of the new tactic.
In the past, the Rakhine had been peaceful and for it to become safe again requires the cooperation of the people, Brig Gen Zaw Min Tun said, adding that the Tatmadaw is protecting the state even though some unscrupulous factions seek to tarnish the military’s reputation.
“Everyone knows what will happen if Tatmadaw doesn’t exist. However, there are many acts aiming to shake the Tatmadaw and reduce its power. Misleading acts that lead a situation in which the Tatmadaw is seen as a villain are unacceptable,” said Major General Tun Tun Nyi, vice chair of Tatmadaw True News Information Team.
Asked about criticisms of Tatmadaw’s recent donation to the Buddha Dhamma Parahita Foundation, Brig Gen Zaw Min Tun said, “This donation was made for the monks. And, we donated due to support the purpose of the Buddha Dhamma Parahita Foundation which was officially announced”.
Moreover, he pointed out that the performances of this foundation did not contradict the provision in section 34 of the 2008 Constitution.
“Every citizen is equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right to freely profess and practice religion subject to public order, morality or health and to the other provisions of the constitution,” he said. – Translated
