Ludhiana: Seeing the failure of authorities in curbing the discharge of waste from dairy units into Buddha Nullah, the Namdhari sect has changed their strategy and will not clean the drain from Tajpur Road side from now on.
They will continue to do so unless the authorities take a decision on shifting of the dairy units or treatment of the waste coming from them.
Meanwhile, the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has agreed to give land for construction of effluent treatment plant (ETP) in Tajpur Road dairy complex for treatment of the waste.
The Namdhari sect had started cleaning the drain from Tajpur Road on December 23, 2018, and the followers claimed they had brought 800 trucks full of filth from drain, but no change has been witnessed as of now.
The spokesperson of Bhaini Sahib Gurudwara Lakhbir Singh claimed that they had been raising the issue of discharge coming from dairy units the day they had started cleaning the drain, but the authorities remained silent on the same. He said now they will start lifting the garbage piled up inside the drain with the help of the followers. “We will also create awareness among the masses for not throwing the garbage inside the drain and support us in keeping it clean instead,” he said.
LIT superintending engineer Rakesh Garg said they are going to send a proposal to the local bodies department for allotting land inside Tajpur Road dairy complex for setting up an ETP.
Notably, in the meeting of of task force members on January 16, the Namdharis had raised the issue of discharge coming from the dairy units inside into the drain. During the meeting, the MC officials were asked to take action against the erring dairy owners who were dumping the waste into Buddha Nullah. Thank you
