RELIGIOUS EVENTS IN HISTORY

On July 1, 1899, Wisconsin businessmen John Nicholson and Samuel Hill decide to form an organization to distribute free Bibles, which later becomes known as Gideons International. With the original goal to unite traveling salesmen for evangelism, Nicholson and Hill created the Christian Commercial Men’s Association of America and began handing out free Bibles. In 1908, now known as Gideons International, members of the association placed Bibles in the rooms of the Superior Hotel in Superior, Montana. Today, the organization distributes Bibles in approximately 200 countries and copies are printed in more than 100 languages.

GOOD BOOK?

“What Made Jesus Mad?: Rediscover the Blunt, Sarcastic, Passionate Savior of the Bible” by Dr. Tim Harlow

What if, by coming to understand God’s holy anger, we come to know a savior we never knew before? With compelling storytelling and enlightening examinations of Scripture, Tim Harlow journeys through the gospels and looks at what, and who, ignited Jesus’ anger. He asks, how can we respond like Jesus when good intentions, prejudices and judgments, traditions and rules, and selfish and joyless people conspire to keep others from God’s presence?

— Thomas Nelson
