Unitarian Universalist Church

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford at 147 High St. is an inclusive liberal community that recognizes and supports the worth and dignity of every human being. We accept and welcome everyone, imposing no doctrine or dogma and supporting the integrity of each person’s spiritual journey.

Worship hours: Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. (Summer Sunday services — through Labor Day — begin at 10 a.m.)

Ongoing programs: Al-Anon meetings from noon to 1 p.m. Monday and Friday and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Benker hall. Community cupboard food pantry is open from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays in the sanctuary.

All services are at 11 a.m.

St. Francis Parish

Calling all boy and girls in Grades 2-8. If you love to sing, ou are a student in Grade 2 or above, and you’d like to meet others who love to sing, then you should consider joining the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Youth Choir. St. Joseph Parish

The St. Joseph, Medford Music Ministry would like to extend an invitation to all high school students who like to sing or play an instrument, to consider participating in the St. Joseph Patish’s Young Adult Music Group, “The Messengers,” at the 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings.

Rehearsals are on Thursday afteroons from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the upper church. The group also meets for a warm-up/rehearsal at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, prior to Mass.

Students receive Community Service hours in us consideration of their participation in the music ministry.

A number of students who joined in previous years enjoyed their experience so much that they decided to become regular members of the group.

New Midweek Study: The church’s new study will help in discovering the Bible’s mandate on how to respond to the “other.” Study guides are available in the church office for $10. The midweek study is open to all who wish to attend. No previous knowledge of the Bible is needed.

Mini-Mission Report: In October and November, 75 pairs of socks of all sizes and colors were collected. They will be given to the Friends of Boston’s Homeless, who support Woods Mullen Women’s Shelter and Southampton Men’s Shelter.

Holiday Bookstore hours: Kurukulla Bookstore is carrying new merchandise for dharma and meditation, as well as some fun items for personal enjoyment.

Every purchase made will help cover the center operating costs and maintain the dharma teachings. The Bookstore will be open at the following times: 6:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays, before and after Sean’s class; 6:30-9:30 p.m., before and after Wendy’s class; noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays; and noon to 2 p.m. Sundays, after Geshe-la’s class.

Support the local food pantry: The Kurukulla Center collects food donations for a local food pantry.

The local pantries are in need of support at this time. As an example, one of the local Medford pantries has more than 100 families passing through twice a week.

Any nonperishable foods are welcomed, and items — like juice boxes, lunch box snack foods, pancake mix, canned soups/stews, tea, coffee, cocoa and hot cereal, like oatmeal — are appreciated. Nonedibles, such as paper towels, napkins, toilet tissue, laundry and dish detergents, bath soap and toothpaste, are also always needed.

Donations can be left in the box marked for donations at the end of the coat rack. The donations are collected regularly and dropped off at the food bank.

New England Baptist Church

Temple Shalom

First Lutheran Church

First Lutheran Church is changing its worship time to 9:45 a.m. followed by fellowship time. In the fall children’s Sunday school and adult Christian education will follow the worship service.

The Winchester area Voice of the Faithful meet Mondays at St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

Food pantries in the community

Community cupboard: The community cupboard food pantry, located at the Unitarian Universalist Church on High Street, is open every Thursday, 6-7:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome.

St. Francis of Assisi: St. Francis of Assisi Parish Center Cafeteria, 441 Fellsway West, opens the food pantry Thursdays, 3-4:30 p.m.

First-time participants should call 781-396-3400.
