As with From Software’s Souls series and Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is filled with mysteries to solve, many of which originate from the game’s unique NPCs. One of these NPCs is Kotaro, a crying monk found in the Senpou Temple area, and he may leave some players confused about exactly what to do when he asks that the Wolf spirit him away.

How to Spirit Away the Crying Monk

It is simple to spirit away Kotaro in Sekiro, but it does require a certain Prosthetic Tool that comes by way of defeating a boss. Specifically, you will need the Divine Abduction Prosthetic Tool.

To earn this ability, you will need to know how to beat the Long-arm Centipede Giraffe, and then you must dispatch the foe at the Gun Fort in the Sunken Valley. Once the beast has been slain, take the Large Fan from the Buddha statue in its room, and then give it to the Sculptor in exchange for Divine Abduction.

With this Prosthetic equipped, accept the crying monk’s request to be spirited away. From there, use Divine Abduction once to charge the ability, and then release it onto Kotaro, sending him to his loved ones.

Collecting Your Reward from the Crying Monk

Once Kotaro has been spirited away, he can be located again in the Hall of Illusions, where the battle with the Folding Screen Monkeys takes place. Simply speak with the formerly crying monk to initiate a dialogue and receive a reward.

This reward comes as a Taro Persimmon, an item that “greatly increases Posture recovery for a time, even when attacking or taking damage.” While some may find the effect underwhelming, the Taro Persimmon can be used in another quest line, and players that wish to get all endings in Sekiro should hold on to it.

While Sekiro bosses are certain to be the primary interest of many players, there is certainly a rich world of NPCs for others to delight in as well. Indeed, slaying the likes of Lady Butterfly is a rewarding experience, but it can also be satisfying to help a troubled monk in need.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
